The result of the 2016 election has created turmoil on the usually peaceful Green River (GR) campus. In order to restore some peace and hope, interim President, Scott Morgan, sent out an email on November 18. The email promised that the college will always “stand by its core values and principles” and think for the betterment of the students. Closing out fall quarter with out last issue has brought a few things to the attention of The Current. The first order of business within our office is the promotion of former Managing Editor, Mariya Mubeen, to co-editor-in-chief. Riley Agnew has had some serious health issues this quarter and the duties of Editor-in-Chief were straining him. As the wild Washington weather cancelled afternoon classes for a lot of students, attendance was remarkably high for last Friday’s Green River College Drag show commencing the end of the second annual National Coming Out week. Through out the second week of Fall Quarter, Green River College’s Student life implemented five events for each day of the week. The GRC Foundation hosted a reception to honor its scholarship winners for academic year 2016-17. On September 29, scholarship recipients gathered in the River Room of Student Union building. It was a casual open-house style event with refreshments available for all attendees. Along with the students, the College and Foundation staff and the selection committee were present at the event. The scholarship was divided into several categories: General, need based, program based, single parent, veterans, and merit based. The awards ranged from $300 to $3,000 per student, with the total budget of $527,000. This amount was divided between 248 recipients. Among…

The Fine Arts Faculty has elected Ao Hu, a 20 year old photography major, as the Artist Spotlight for the month of October. Ao Hu was raised in China and moved to Washington in the fall of 2013 to attend Green River College. He lives on campus in the Campus Corner Apartments and is hoping to transfer to another university to continue his education at schools like the School of Visual Arts in New York, or the California College of The Arts. The PC Repair shop on the Green River Campus offers a quick and easy-to-use resource when it comes to computer issues. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to bring in their laptop or computer if they are ever experience any kind of problems. The shop is guaranteed to be open on Mondays and Wednesdays between noon and 2:00 PM, but a technitian can usually be found in the shop most days of the week. The free event took place on Thursday, May 26 right outside the Mel Lindbloom Student Union. The Office of Diversity of Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) has open positions available for students for fall quarter. There are three parts of ODEI students can be a part of when applying for a position. The first position available is as an Office Assistant, where the employees main job is to help other students with questions they might have and provide support. Espial is a literary arts journal. Art is taken from the students of Green River to be put into a journal that shows off that year’s art as a sort of time capsule.
