    Helen S. Smith Gallery Showcases ‘Like and Subscribe’ Art Exhibit

    Students from the course Art 180 showcase amazing artworks in”Like and Subscribe” Exhibition.   Helen S. Smith Gallery in Green River College fosters an in-depth preparation for the study and creation of art. On campus, a student will undertake a program of study which helps each student to find a balance between aesthetics and technique in their creative process and expression.     New Musical: “Peter And The Starcatcher”

    A new play has arrived at Green River College called “Peter and the Starcatcher” and it is here to make a splash, put on by the college drama department.   This play is a relatively new stage play/musical by Rick Elice. It is an adaptation of the book written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson named “Peter and the Starcatchers”. It’s a modern prequel to the age-old story of “Peter Pan” that delves into how “Peter” became “Peter Pan” In 2004, Berry and Pearson published a book that added a whole new story on top of the one commonly known.     April Artist Spotlight – Jamie Parker

    The fine arts faculty here at Green River College chose Jamie Parker, 34, to be the April artist spotlight.  Parker was born and raised in Kennewick, Wash. and has been attending GRC since last spring. She is a stay-at-home mom with two sons ages 6 and 9. Currently she is earning her Associates in Fine Arts and is hoping to transfer to a four-year university to earn her Bachelors in Fine Arts.  As far as outside hobbies go, art is her real hobby and besides that Parker and her husband are season ticket holders for University of Washington football.     Green River’s Dance Program Is Back

    Green River’s dance program is back with a strong instructor to lead it. Tesse George is the new dance instructor and is taking charge for the revived dance program. It is George’s first quarter at the college, however, she has been teaching for 20 years. She has previously taught at private studios and specialized in the dance styles of ballet, contemporary, modern, and jazz. George has been professionally training ever since the age of four.     January Artist Spotlight – Louise Nguyen

    Louise Nguyen, 19, is a fine arts major who has been selected by the fine arts faculty as January’s artist spotlight. Nguyen was born and raised in Vietnam before moving to Texas her senior year of high school for an exchange program. She then moved to Washington where she now attends Green River College. Nguyen lives in Auburn and shares a home with other international students.     The Green River Jazz Voices

    Green River’s Jazz Voices is a group of very talented and hardworking students who use their unique voices to come together and create one beautiful sound. The choral group is an audition-only jazz choir that has 16 singers and is conducted by Kelly Eisenhour, who is well versed in the music field. She has won two Grammys and has also created albums including “Seek and Find” which became #14 on the JazzWeek national radio airplay charts in 2007.
