    Veteran Services Available In SA Building

    Green River College is committed to the success of its veteran students. The college has an entire office dedicated to serving the veterans. Veteran Services is located on the second floor of the Student Affairs building in rooms 236 and 237. Some of the services they offer are financial assistance, grants, and extra loans that they may be in need of. This space also allows veterans to indulge in snacks and drinks and is a place to gather to share experiences and meet other veterans.     Green River College student  Kaedyn Kashmir, 17, follows the motto to live life as if her last day.   Currently studying to aim for a major in arts and animation, this go-getter is going above and beyond with a set goal to work at Nintendo in Japan.     While many college aged kids know who Martin Luther King Jr. is, many only see the holiday as a day of relaxation.     Valuable Campus Amenities Available to Students

      Green River College provides an adjustable and positive environment for its students through several features and amenities scattered over campus. The Student Life office, located on the second floor of Lindbloom Student Union, offers different opportunities via events, activities, and programs that motivate the student to participate in the campus community. The events include volunteering opportunities on and off campus, leadership opportunities, and job positions.  Students also have a chance to start their own clubs and organizations.     College Responds To Clery Investigation Findings

    Green River College has released their response to the findings by the Department of Education (DOE) in regards to the Clery Act. In November 2015, the DOE began an investigation into the college’s Clery Act standards. The Clery Act dictates how crime, fire, and safety statistics are recorded and reported. Last September, the findings of the investigation were released and showed that the college failed in 13 areas and must respond to the findings.     Amanda Jenkinson-November Artist Spotlight

    The fine arts faculty chose Amanda Jenkinson, 19, to be the November artist spotlight. Jenkinson is an artist pursuing an Associates of Fine Arts degree here at Green River College. She has lived in Auburn her whole life. After getting her AFA she is going to transfer to Western Washington University where she is thinking of becoming an illustrator. Jenkinson has been drawing seriously since her junior year of high school when she took her first actual drawing class.     Many Green River College students are affected by a serious epidemic; procrastination. Pushing off assignments until the last minute, as many people have experienced firsthand, leads to stress, anxiety and eventual breakdowns.     Governor Jay Inslee: “We Can Defeat Climate Change!”

    On Friday, Oct. 13, Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington State visited Green River College to give a talk on the various effects of climate change going on in the state. Inslee’s talk took place at 1 p.m. in the River Room of Mel Lindbloom Student Union.     Cross Country Team Face An Uphill Battle to Regionals

      Green River’s cross country had their last tune-up race before NW Region Championship on Oct. 28 and the NWAC Championship on Nov 11. On a chilly Saturday morning, the Green River country team met at Lower Woodland park in Seattle. A beautiful park, great scenery, and it overlooked the Green Lake. There were plenty of talented schools and clubs that participated in the race including: UW, Club Northwest, Northwest University and some unattached clubs.     New Musical: “Peter And The Starcatcher”

    A new play has arrived at Green River College called “Peter and the Starcatcher” and it is here to make a splash, put on by the college drama department.   This play is a relatively new stage play/musical by Rick Elice. It is an adaptation of the book written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson named “Peter and the Starcatchers”.
