Green River is a pet-friendly institute, and some faculty members choose to bring their pets with them to the college. Green River College hosted the Latino Student Union’s first event, gathering a crowd of over 300 people to celebrate Fiesta Latina in the Grand Hall of the Student Union building. Pride Prom was an exciting and all- inclusive party hosted by the Queer & Allies club. On May 4, LGBTQ+ and ally students gathered together in the Student Union building to share their cultures and diverse identities. Some students proudly waved their giant pride flags, while others joined in on dancing to the DJ’s light show. Campus Safety officers are encouraging students to report suspicious activity in retaliation against a rise of criminal activity in and around campus. Safety works closely with the Auburn Police Department (APD) and college officials to ensure the safety of all students and staff. However, the campus’s urban location and proximity to surrounding neighborhoods where crime is more intermittent presents challenges to those who frequent the college. “We’ve been having a small rash of robberies around campus,” said Marvin Viney, assistant director of campus safety. Theresa Lee is officially retiring after this spring quarter from 12 years of instructing as an adjunct childhood educator at Green River College. She has two two-year degrees from North Seattle Community College—one in vocal music and the other in early childhood education. She was first inspired to teach childhood education when her children were born. From that inspiration, she has had a long, fulfilling career and has been teaching at Green River since 2005. Green River College freshman Amaechi “Choco” Medani was recently featured in an April Fools T-mobile commercial. Choco, 19, was born in Seattle but comes from a Nigerian background. With accumulating more than 50 videos on his YouTube channel “Choctivity”, Choco has managed to surpass 200,000 views on his channel., where he regularly posts comedy videos of his own making. He also has an Instagram, “chocovsameachi,” which has over 8,000 followers. Some of his posts have thousands of views.
