    Research proves that incorporating Affirmative Action to make historically disadvantaged groups competitive against white populations is not enough.Throughout history, white people have been set up to be recognized as the cultural norm in America.     Green River College Holds Annual Halloween Party

    Each year, Green River College holds a Halloween party for students the week before Halloween. On Oct 27, students lined up outside of the Student Union at 8 p.m. The Student Union had been transformed from its usual bustling student-center to a club-like atmosphere for the party.There was multi-colored lights and and a large wooden dance floor in the room. Around the perimeter, there were students dressed in bright yellow shirts, permitting other students out of the building. They would not be allowed back in if they decided to leave.     Green River College Fails To Comply With Clery Act Standards

    Green River College officials will not fight the Department of Education’s findings that they violated a federal campus crime-reporting act for six consecutive years.  The Clery Act mandates the reporting of crime and fire statistics on campuses. Colleges must follow these guidelines in order to receive Title IV funding.  GRC, in funding, received $13 million for the school year of 2015 and 2016. In Nov of 2015, auditors from the Department of Education (DOE) arrived on campus to review data and policies concerning the Clery Act and the DFSCA.     Green River College has multiple financial aid resources available to all students.“Green River College Foundation provides resources to assist Green River College achieve education excellence,” The Green River College Foundation website said in their mission statement.The foundation focuses on four strategies: access, capacity building, flexibility, and the success of the students. Recently, the foundation has added 100 additional scholarships to their program. The Green River Foundation scholarships, TRiO scholarships, and The Husky Promise scholarship, which is great for any students who have plans to transfer to The University of Washington, are all options for the many different types of students.…

    Druids Glen League Match Gives Golf Team Hope

    The Green River College (GRC) men’s golf team performed impressively in their league match at Druids Glen, which took place from April 23 to 24. On the same date, the women’s team played at the Lake Wilderness course, and then at the Washington National Golf Club (WNGC) in Auburn. The team struggled for the past couple of games, generally due to some players not being able to participate, as well as adverse weather causing some difficulty in play.     April Artist Spotlight – Jamie Parker

    The fine arts faculty here at Green River College chose Jamie Parker, 34, to be the April artist spotlight.  Parker was born and raised in Kennewick, Wash. and has been attending GRC since last spring. She is a stay-at-home mom with two sons ages 6 and 9. Currently she is earning her Associates in Fine Arts and is hoping to transfer to a four-year university to earn her Bachelors in Fine Arts.  As far as outside hobbies go, art is her real hobby and besides that Parker and her husband are season ticket holders for University of Washington football.     Green River College Associates Students President has named hard work, sacrifice and time as tools needed for the successful operations of the next leadership.     Wednesday, April 26 was spring quarter’s advising day, students from all walks of life came from 9am to 6pm to plan their futures. If you’ve ever had any doubts about your future, advising day is for you. Students who attended advising day gained helpful advice on topics such as which classes to take and how to pay for college.     Student Government Meeting

    The Associated Students of Green River College held a meeting on March 2.  The ASGRC is committed to helping students and the college’s needs. They focus on topics and interests that arise based on student complaints. The ASGRC takes these complaints, on behalf of the students, to the College of Administration and Board of Trustees. “[It] bridges that gap between the students and the administration.” ASGRC Vice Presdient Harjot Singh said.     Chinese New Year

    Jan. 28 is the day when the New Year starts for the people of China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and some other Asian countries. This is due to the calendar that Asian countries use. In western countries, people celebrate new year by solar calendar, but for some Asian countries, they celebrate it by lunar calendar dates. On Friday, Jan. 27, a lunar new year celebration will be held in the Student Union from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  The college will provide a photo booth, and DJ for the dance party of the celebration.
