    December’s artist spotlight, carefully chosen by the fine arts faculty, is Madison Tovar, 20, a pottery artist. Tovar is working towards an Associates of Fine Arts. She is unsure where she’d like to go after graduation this spring. Her heart desires travel so she is thinking that she’d like to get out of the state of Washington.     Marie Xieng selected as January’s Artist Spotlight

    Marie Xieng, 21, has been selected for January’s Artist Spotlight, nominated by the fine arts department for her stellar art pieces.             Born in Shanghai, China, Xieng has been attending Green River for a little over two-and-a-half years and has plans of transferring. She studied in Germany in 2014 before moving to Washington. The artist has taken almost every art class offered at the college ranging from Art 180 to Oil Painting.     Green River College student  Kaedyn Kashmir, 17, follows the motto to live life as if her last day.   Currently studying to aim for a major in arts and animation, this go-getter is going above and beyond with a set goal to work at Nintendo in Japan.     Amanda Jenkinson-November Artist Spotlight

    The fine arts faculty chose Amanda Jenkinson, 19, to be the November artist spotlight. Jenkinson is an artist pursuing an Associates of Fine Arts degree here at Green River College. She has lived in Auburn her whole life. After getting her AFA she is going to transfer to Western Washington University where she is thinking of becoming an illustrator. Jenkinson has been drawing seriously since her junior year of high school when she took her first actual drawing class.     New Musical: “Peter And The Starcatcher”

    A new play has arrived at Green River College called “Peter and the Starcatcher” and it is here to make a splash, put on by the college drama department.   This play is a relatively new stage play/musical by Rick Elice. It is an adaptation of the book written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson named “Peter and the Starcatchers”.     Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of life and death that is deeply important to Latin people all around the world. Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English, is a deeply spiritual two-day event in which people remember and reconnect with lost loved ones.     The Neighbourhood Newest EP, HARD

    The Neighbourhood, an alternative rock-band releases a new extended play two years after their last project. The Neighbourhood’s dark, bass accentuated EP, HARD, came out on September 22, 2017.  The subversive collection of five songs, “Noise”, “Roll Call”, “Sadderdaze”, “You Get Me So High” and “24/7”, indicate a new phase of the band, moving towards a harder and more intense direction.     April Artist Spotlight – Jamie Parker

    The fine arts faculty here at Green River College chose Jamie Parker, 34, to be the April artist spotlight.  Parker was born and raised in Kennewick, Wash. and has been attending GRC since last spring. She is a stay-at-home mom with two sons ages 6 and 9.     January Artist Spotlight – Louise Nguyen

    Louise Nguyen, 19, is a fine arts major who has been selected by the fine arts faculty as January’s artist spotlight. Nguyen was born and raised in Vietnam before moving to Texas her senior year of high school for an exchange program. She then moved to Washington where she now attends Green River College.     The Green River Jazz Voices

    Green River’s Jazz Voices is a group of very talented and hardworking students who use their unique voices to come together and create one beautiful sound. The choral group is an audition-only jazz choir that has 16 singers and is conducted by Kelly Eisenhour, who is well versed in the music field. She has won two Grammys and has also created albums including “Seek and Find” which became #14 on the JazzWeek national radio airplay charts in 2007.
