    Music Monday: XLovers Light Up The Stage

    Green River students jam out with Music Monday performers Jacob Ames and London Jackson from the band X Lovers. Singer/songwriter London Jackson, 19, and drummer/producer Jacob Ames, 18, sated Green River students musical appetite during lunch in the Student Union building with pure talent. The duo played hit pop songs with their own musical twist, highlighting both individual’s talents. Songs such as “She will be loved” by Maroon 5, and “Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Rey were played.     Artist Spotlight: Eric Burghard

    Eric Burghard, 39, is the artist spotlight for this issue. Burghard is originally from New York and moved to Washington state in 1992. After moving, he attended and graduated from Auburn Senior High School where he discovered his love for art.In 2005 Eric started attending Green River College where he pursued “a civil engineer type careers”, but he ended up being dissatisfied with it and chose to seek other career paths.     Iconic Black Panther Movie Wows Audiences

    The much anticipated ‘Black Panther’ didn’t disappoint and got people into the spirit of the movie.  People were caught up in the “Wakanda” spirit as crowds of moviegoers cheered and barked upon exiting the cinema. The movie had created an ebullient vibe that interested everyone. Having watched the movie twice now, it is clear that Marvel and director Ryan Coogler set about making a movie that catered and related to a race of over 1 billion people – and they succeeded, spectacularly.     The Helen S. Smith Gallery showcases the great talent that our students and local community have to offer. The gallery is located in the Holman Library on the Green River Campus.     Artist Spotlight: Blake Filley Capturing Beauty With Every Picture

    Blake Filley, 30, was chosen by the Fine Arts faculty as this month’s artist spotlight. Filley is a photographer that is finishing up his Associates in Fine Arts this quarter as well as an Associates in Business. He grew up in Olathe, Kansas, a small town just outside of Kansas City and joined the US Army upon graduating High school. After completing basic training, he was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2006. He lived in Washington for seven years and was moved to Hawaii for his eighth.     Music Monday Showcases An Incredible Talent: Naomi Wachria

    Every Monday until March 5, there will live musical performance for free from 12-1 p.m. in the Student Union building at Green River College. The colleges Student Activities board has created an event invited local and national artists to do performances at our college, this is a great opportunity for all students to enjoy different types of music for free.     Creative Writing: A Club For The Future

    The English department is in the midst of establishing a creative writing club at Green River College and is an excellent way for students to discover and pursue their passion. Emily Beals, English professor, had announced her intentions of creating a place for her students to project their creative voices in their writing.
