The Chinese Student Association focuses on promoting Chinese culture and encouraging cross-cultural understanding and communication. According to the club’s mission, students can learn about Chinese language, traditions, history, food, art, and modern Chinese culture while also sharing their own cultures with others. The club hopes these activities will help students make friends and feel more connected to the college community.
Each year, CSA organizes different cultural and social activities. This year, some of the planned activities include: Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations. The club also plans to hold food-related events, such as dumpling-making workshops, hot pot socials, mooncake tastings, and Chinese tea activities. These events are designed to help students experience Chinese culture in a more interactive way.
The club will also introduce students to Chinese arts and games. Workshops include Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, traditional painting, and Hanfu experiences. Students interested in learning Mandarin can join conversation tables, pronunciation practice, and language exchange activities. In addition, CSA plans to introduce modern Chinese culture through Chinese pop music, movies and TV shows.
Beyond cultural activities, CSA wants to support students in their college and professional lives. The club plans to offer networking opportunities, transfer fairs, resume and interview workshops, career panels, and leadership development activities. It also hopes to work with other student organizations on multicultural events, such as an International Food Festival and a Cultural Swap Challenge.
The club is led by a multicultural executive board, with students from China, South Korea, and Japan serving in different leadership positions. As the Marketing and Outreach Officer, I help promote CSA events, reach out to students, and connect the club with other organizations on campus.
For CSA, the goal is not only to introduce Chinese culture to other students. It is also to create a space where students from different cultures can learn from each other, build friendships, and feel connected at Green River College. For further information, scan the QR code below.
